PHP's str_repeat in TypeScript

✓ Verified: PHP 8.3
Examples tested against actual runtime. CI re-verifies continuously. Only documented examples are tested.
Rosetta Stone: golang/Repeat · lua/rep · tcl/repeat

How to use

Install via yarn add locutus and import: import { str_repeat } from 'locutus/php/strings/str_repeat'.

Or with CommonJS: const { str_repeat } = require('locutus/php/strings/str_repeat')

Use a bundler that supports tree-shaking so you only ship the functions you actually use. Vite, webpack, Rollup, and Parcel all handle this. For server-side use this is less of a concern.

Examples

These examples are extracted from test cases that automatically verify our functions against their native counterparts.

Here's what our current TypeScript equivalent to PHP's str_repeat looks like.

export function str_repeat(input: string, multiplier: number): string {
// discuss at: https://locutus.io/php/str_repeat/
// parity verified: PHP 8.3
// original by: Kevin van Zonneveld (https://kvz.io)
// improved by: Jonas Raoni Soares Silva (https://www.jsfromhell.com)
// improved by: Ian Carter (https://euona.com/)
// example 1: str_repeat('-=', 10)
// returns 1: '-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-='

let y = ''
while (true) {
if (multiplier & 1) {
y += input
}
multiplier >>= 1
if (multiplier) {
input += input
} else {
break
}
}
return y
}

Improve this function

Locutus is a community effort following The McDonald's Theory: we ship first iterations, hoping others will improve them. If you see something that could be better, we'd love your contribution.
